Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Martin Fuerst absolvierte seine Facharztausbildung am Klinikum Bad Bramstedt, in der Berufsgenossenschaftlichen Unfallklinik Duisburg-Buchholz und an der Universitätsklinik Hamburg-Eppendorf. Schwerpunkt seiner klinischen und wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit ist die Behandlung und Erforschung von Gelenkerkrankungen: Neben zahlreichen international anerkannten Publikationen zu miniaturisierten Endoprothesen und zur modernen Revisionsendoprothetik verfasste Martin Fuerst hochrangige Arbeiten im Bereich der Grundlagenforschung zur Arthrose.
Schwerpunkt seiner klinischen Tätigkeit ist die endoprothetische Versorgung von Hüft-, Knie- und Schultergelenk sowie die arthroskopische Chirurgie.
2010 erhielt Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Martin Fuerst im Rahmen seiner Habilitation an dem Universitätsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf die Lehrbefugnis und Lehrbefähigung für das Fach Orthopädie. Am UKEHamburg ist er weiterhin als Dozent tätig.
Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Martin Fuerst ist Oberarzt in der Sektion für onkologische und rheumatologische Orthopädie im Universitätsklinikum Schleswig Holstein, Campus Kiel. Seit September 2012 ist er Ärztlicher Direktor des St. Elisabeth Krankenhaus in Kiel.
